Good afternoon!
A judge will decide next week whether shelter workers in Bayview should face trial for allegedly helping an armed man accused of shooting a police officer. Mariana Newman reports that DA Brooke Jenkins says workers hid the man from police; the staff say they and their clients were effectively held hostage by him.
Bay Area immigration attorneys are warning of an uptick in more violent ICE arrests, write Clara-Sophia Daly and Sarah Hopkins. Not everyone agrees that there is a “surge,” but four of the six arrests in the Bay Area last week involved violent tactics.
And a day after one of those arrests, Clara-Sophia Daly reports, city officials said they would put an additional $1.8 million into immigrant legal defense.
