
Good afternoon—and happy first day of summer!
That controversial center bikelane on Valencia is still unfinished. But in its first eight weeks, it’s caused at least two bicycle crashes—and a great deal of confusion for cyclists, delivery vans and drivers. “It is the worst infrastructure I have ever seen anywhere in the world,” said Mikael Colville-Andersen, an urban designer.
It looks as if the War Memorial board—all mayoral appointees— will make mayoral ally Kate Sofis the managing director of the arts complex. Despite her lack of minimum qualifications, Sofis beat out 29 experienced candidates, including professionals with years at the SF Symphony, SF Opera Guild, and SF Ballet. Sofis abruptly left her previous city job.
