Wow, it was busy at yesterday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

Aaliyah Español-Rivas reports that the city dropped the percentage of affordable units it will require market-rate developers to include in new projects from 15 to 5 percent. Supervisor Jackie Fielder managed to carve out an exception for the Mission, with an 8 percent requirement.

Supervisors also asked the state to expand the city’s automated speed-camera program to cover more high-injury corners. Sarah Hopkins looks at the impact so far on pedestrian safety.

And Supervisor Matt Dorsey‘s bill requiring new city-funded supportive housing to be drug-free is now law. Adriana Gutierrez explains, though, that almost all supportive housing in San Francisco is built with state funding, which mandates a “Housing First” policy under which tenants cannot be evicted for drug use alone.

Speaking of drugs, here’s some back story on Dorsey‘s own drug use—and his belief that had he used drugs in supportive housing, he would have deserved to be evicted.
