Good afternoon!
Given federal and state changes, more and more San Franciscans are losing their health insurance. Sarah Hopkins looks at whether Healthy S.F., San Francisco’s healthcare program of last resort, will be able to fill the gap.
No longer can contractors like Urban Alchemy and Ahsing Solutions pay their street cleaners less than the prevailing wage. Christina Baris reports on new legislation sponsored by Supervisor Mynra Melgar and passed unanimously last night.
For 50 years, the SF Pretrial Diversion Project helped thousands of people awaiting trial stay out of jail and make their court appearances, writes Frankie Solinksy Duryea. Now the organization’s closing, and its replacement isn’t readyโleaving more pretrial defendants on the streets who aren’t being monitored or supported.
Back story: Due to a recent state Supreme Court decision, more people must be released from jail pretrial, and the jail count in San Francisco has plummeted.
More soon,
Sara
