Whoa!! This year’s Incredibly Strange Music show will in fact be hosted by none other than thee national expert himself, the media-archeologist and live re-mixer 99 Hooker! The former San Fran man, now on national tour, navigates/narrates his way through a 2-hour cavalcade of jaw-dropping musical treasures, from both the pre- and post-MTV eras, leading up to his own 30-min. Media Meltdown. In his infamous Beatnik scat, scratch, and rant fashion, 99’s electrified live-switching tour de force aims to de-construct stereotypical tropes in contemporary commercial rotation, making his parody a part of our larger conversation about music-on-film.

Setting up this lineage is a rare set of Soundies, including performances by Duke Ellington, Tex Ritter, Spike Jones, and Liberace, as well as a handful of what-the-fuck? 16mm musical anomalies.

And our second half boasts latter-day celluloid records of cult musicians Louis Prima & Keely Smith, The Animals, Jackson Five, Grateful Dead, and more! Special appearances by the Rolling Stones and the Maysles Brothers in Bart Weiss’ Rolling Film, Rocking History.
