Joe Villatomez, 47, being arrested outside of the Frances Hotel after allegedly trying to prevent officers from arresting his girlfriend.

Police arrested a man and woman on the 2000 block of Mission Street around 11 a.m. Thursday.

Maritza Garcia, 50, was under arrest at the Frances Hotel on a felony warrant when her boyfriend, Joe Villatomez, 47, attempted to stop the officers from taking her away, according to Lieutenant Raj Vaswani at Mission Police Station.

“There was a brief struggle inside the hotel hallway,” said Lieutenant Vaswani.  “(Villatomez) made some threats to the police.”

Both Garcia and Villatomez are charged with resisting arrest.

Outside of the hotel, Villatomez was shirtless and had scrape marks on his body.  He leaned against a light post with his eyes closed and his hands cuffed.

On the scene, Officer Guerrero said an arrest was being made on warrant, but could not comment further.  Both uniformed and plainclothes officers from the warrant unit were present, several police cars, a police van and an ambulance.

Villatomez was taken away in the police van, and Garcia was taken in a cop car.

Witnesses said they heard noise and possibly a fight upstairs in the Frances Hotel.  Resident Robert Waller said Villatomez lives on the second floor.
