A man shot early Saturday in downtown San Francisco died after being taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said in a statement.

Officers responded around 1 a.m. to Market and Cyril Magnin streets, where they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers provided aid at the scene, but he later died despite efforts by hospital medical staff, police said.

SFPD’s Homicide Detail is leading the investigation. Police have not released information about a possible suspect or what led up to the shooting.

SFPD’s crime dashboard listed 18 homicides in San Francisco so far this year.
