Girls on the Run Bay Area has been empowering youth through running, mentorship, and a nationally recognized confidence-building curriculum for over 20 years. The afterschool program inspires participants to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities, and confidently stand up for themselves and others.
The GOTR Bay Area fall program runs from September to September to November with a celebratory 5K on November 14, offering programs for 3rd–8th grade students. Register for the fall season here!

The SFPD has arrested two employees of a Bayview shelter on charges that back in May they harbored a gunman who’d allegedly shot an officer and was trying to hide in the shelter. Marina Newman reports that one of the arrested employees had been shot in the back by a police officer in 2018.
In other police news, maybe the SFPD’s drones aren’t quite as reliable for fighting crime as promised. Brandon Pho looks at a case that fell apart over drone footage that mistook a handshake for a drug deal, and reports on the increasing controversy over high-tech police surveillance.
Families are confused and frustrated by the SFUSD lottery system, writes Rosina Boehm. She asks the candidates for school board if they support moving ahead with area-based assignments.
