Welcome back to our โ€œMeet the Candidatesโ€ series, where District 2 supervisor candidates respond to a question in 100 words or fewer. Answers are published every Tuesday.

District 2 covers neighborhoods in the north of the city including the Presidio, the Marina, Cow Hollow, Pacific Heights, Presidio Heights, Anza Vista, and portions of the Western Addition and North of the Panhandle.

Despite San Franciscoโ€™s hills, people bike across the city every day. But the hills arenโ€™t the only challenge for a San Francisco biker โ€” figuring out how to safely share the road with cars is, too.ย

To help improve street safety, SFMTA is planning to expand the cityโ€™s bike lane network. In 2025 the agency adopted a โ€œBiking and Rolling Planโ€ that aims to have a bike lane within a quarter mile of every San Francisco home.

Some neighborhoods in District 2 have decent bike lane options, including the Presidio, North of the Panhandle, Western Addition, Anza Vista, and Presidio Heights.

But bike lane deserts remain, particularly in the Marina, Pac Heights, and Cow Hollow. Those neighborhoods have few east-west bike lanes, and the north-south bike lanes are far to the west on Arguello or far to the east on Polk. The Webster bike lane currently does not continue north after Bush Street.ย

New bike lanes may not be welcomed by everyone. Neighbors and businesses sometimes oppose them because of concerns about parking, traffic flow, and customer access to storefronts.

This weekโ€™s question: Do you support expanding the bike lane network in District 2? If so, where would you like to see new bike lanes?

Mission Local color codes the answers to yes/no questions. A blue background means the candidate answered yes, an orange background means no, and a yellow background means that the candidate dodged the question.

I support safe and thoughtfully designed bike infrastructure where it improves safety and connectivity without disrupting neighborhood livability, transit, emergency access, or small businesses. Decisions should be made corridor by corridor with meaningful community input, not imposed on neighborhoods.

Safety and access for bicycles is necessary. I support targeted improvements where there are known safety concerns and need for better transit. We need to learn from past projects that created frustration because residents felt excluded from the process and safer transit was not delivered.

Bike lanes should prioritize safety and convenience for cyclists, pedestrians, transit riders, drivers, and businesses alike.

Yes. District 2 has gaps in the bike network, and closing them makes the whole city work better.

Iโ€™m working to prioritize east-west connectivity east of Clay and Webster, where the slow street ends and commuters lose protection heading downtown.

North-south, my office is pushing for protections along Webster to link Pacific Heights to the Marina, as well as finalizing the Arguello improvements already in motion. And finally, adding daylighting and intersection upgrades at the worst conflict points: Geary/Arguello, Geary/Masonic, Bay/Laguna, and we’d save lives.
