Smoke Soul Kitchen installs a “to-go” window

Smoke Soul Kitchen has installed a new “to-go” window at 4618 3rd Street allowing for easy pickup of their famed chicken and waffles.

In an Instagram video announcing the opening, co-owners Vanessa Lee and Fred Davis teased the opening of the window: Lee pokes her head outside the window to watch for any gossip happening on Third Street. The window will be ready for service in mid-April.

U3Fit gym plans a big expansion

Lawanda Dickerson, the owner of U3Fit at 4646 Third St. at Newcomb Street, a small, but popular gym on the corridor, leased a new, much larger gym at 1610 Armstrong Ave. At  approximately 20,000 square feet, it will be the largest health and fitness center to operate in Bayview outside of the neighborhood’s YMCA.

Dickerson, a life and fitness coach, wrote in a post to social media that she expects to open the new location in 2027.

“This has been a dream 12+ years in the making,” wrote Dickerson. “This is more than a building. It’s a commitment to wellness, to community, and to creating spaces where we can all thrive.”

Meet the D10 candidates at Gratta Wines

Gratta Wines, at 5273 Third St. and Van Dyke Avenue, is hosting a “Meet the Candidates” event series for District 10’s supervisor election every Thursday this April.

Last week, owner Barbara Gratta hosted candidate Dion-Jay Brookter, and plans to host Potrero Hill’s J.R. Eppler this week. Interested voters can sip wines and snack on small plates while chatting with the candidates, who also include Theo Ellington and political newcomer Pearci Bastiany. Ellington is expected to drop by Gratta Wines on April 23, and Bastiany on April 16.

The November election is still a ways away, but in the neighborhood, it is already underway. For weeks now, candidates have been busy canvassing across the district, knocking on doors, and hosting campaign events.

Burgers, birthday cake, and vinyl at Laughing Monk’s 10th anniversary

Laughing Monk Brewery is hosting its 10th anniversary celebration on Saturday, April 18. Partygoers can enjoy burgers catered by the Latin American pop-up Gax, a vinyl DJ set, followed by a slice of birthday cake.

Laughing Monk’s co-owners and beer connoisseurs Andrew Casteel and Aaron Hicks opened their brewery at 1439 Egbert Ave., at Egbert and Jennings Street, its main production taproom, in 2016.

Since then, the brewery has expanded dramatically, opening new locations across the Bay Area and Scotts Valley. Its fifth location, planned for early 2026, will open in San Jose.

The “Grill and Chill” event will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Bayview Taproom.
