Two men were sent to the hospital Wednesday evening, one in critical condition, after a suspected stabbing around Dolores Park, officials said.

The San Francisco Police Department received a call about a “group of unknown subjects in a physical altercation” near Dolores Park at about 4:50 p.m., the department wrote in a statement.

Police officers were told it was a “possible stabbing” on the way to the park. They found two men with stab wounds and rendered aid, the department said, before paramedics took both men to the hospital.

San Francisco Fire Department spokesperson Samuel Menchaca said fire personnel were dispatched to the scene at 4:48 p.m. with a fire engine, rescue captain, and two parademic units.

Menchaca said both victims had “critical” puncture wounds in the initial dispatch from the scene. The police department said one of the men had life-threatening injuries, and the other non-life-threatening.

Officers searched the area and arrested six juveniles and two adults in connection with the stabbing, but are still conducting their investigation.

Menchaca did not know the current condition of either patient. He could not say if the stabbing occurred within the park or nearby.

  1. You basically need a permanent police presence in the park..too many deplorables per square footage..Most of the time it is not even gang related, it is just a matter of how someone is perceived to look at another person, usually it is trivial but the lack of neurons in their brains, it escalates very fast. Group of kids are usually the most dangerous encounter since they do not grasp or comprehend the value of life and know the judges are going to be lenient. Jails in California will be packed for a long time, one generation replacing the other one.Education start at home, you cannot blame everything on the fact there is no basketball court around or a place for them to play bingo.

  2. Dolores Park is a magnet for troublemakers. A homeless man who speaks only Spanish told me he was sleeping under a tree there early in the morning when gunfire broke out, so he woke up in a total panic and hid behind it until he found out he was safe.

    1. That’s not exactly accurate…although Jackie Fielder’s utter disregard for the drug- and stolen-goods trade at the 16th St BART has caused some shift of the problems to west of Mission St. Those of us who live here work to keep the area peaceful and clean. It is a shame that there’s a perception that Dolores Park is a crime zone. Having said that, I want to know what happened there and what charges will be brought against the pediatric troublemakers who were arrested.
