Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Mayor Daniel Lurie is moving the tiny cabins formerly at 16th and Mission to a shelter site in the Bayview “for temporary storage.” D10 Supervisor Shamann Walton called the move a “bait and switch,” and noted that Mayor Lurie is not returning his calls.

Sheriff Paul Miyamoto‘s new chief of staff, John Ramirez, was cleared of wrongdoing after being investigated for shoving a protestor to the ground in 2020. The previous chief of staff, Richard Jue, was booked on twoย misdemeanor chargesย in June. See more on the Sheriff’s problems from Abigail Vรขn Neely.

The Golden Gate Bridge has a long history as a site of protests. But for the first time, the Golden Gate Bridge Authority is seeking restitution ($163,000 for “lost toll revenue”) from pro-Palestine protestors who shut down the bridge in April 2024.
