Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Hey, congratulations: El Tecolote, the bilingual Mission newspaper that’s trained generations of journalists, is celebrating its 55th anniversary! Stop by the offices at 2958 24th St. from 5-10PM today for the party. Yes, there will be a piรฑata.

This morning, several adults and families with children filled the S.F. immigration court for scheduled hearings. A weeping Colombian woman seeking asylum was handcuffed outside the courtroom and arrested by ICE.

The U.S. citizen who was detained Wednesday protesting ICE arrests has been charged with two federal misdemeanors. She was held incommunicado at ICE headquarters and the Santa Rita jail in Alameda County until yesterday, when a judge released her pending trial.

San Francisco will receive between $8-12 million as part of a nationwide opioid settlement. Between 2015 and 2020, the city saw a 500% increase in opioid overdoses.

And check this out, sports fans: Liliana Michelena‘s got the story on Bay FC’s debut tomorrow at Oracle Park.

More soon,

Sara
