Two immigrants were arrested at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement building at 630 Sansome St. on Thursday afternoon, confirmed Milli Atkinson, the Immigrant Legal Defense Program Director for the Justice and Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco.

In the past two weeks, ICE has arrested at least 22 people. This would be the 23rd and 24th arrests of those known to the public.

By around 2 p.m., about a dozen people were demonstrating in front of the office.

“We’re gonna stay out here and make sure that our community knows that if ICE tries any funny business, we’ll be here to meet them in the streets when they try and come out,” said one of the protesters with a megaphone.

Both entrances to the garages at 630 Sansome St. are blocked by protesters, chanting “Justice for all!” and “When immigrant rights are under attack, what do we do? Stand up, fight back!”

Protesters are waiting for the two immigrants arrested to be taken out of the building before they are taken away by authorities.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

  1. OK, so 24 local ICE arrests in the last 2 weeks. But how many arrests does ICE typically make in a 2 week period? It is reasonable to assume that they detain people all the time, since that is their job.

It would be useful to see how this period relates to prior periods, so that we can decide if there really is a “purge” going on. Or whether there is now just more publicity goong on?
