San Francisco’s new mayor is enjoying overwhelmingly positive press in the early innings of his tenure. Mayor Daniel Lurie attends more than a dozen events a day; his busy Instagram feed presents a feeling of omnipresence. But San Francisco is facing mammoth challenges. How is our neophyte mayor doing to actually address a looming budget mess and the ever-present specter of vindictive federal behavior — which cannot be solved with energetic outreach, positivity and boosterism?
