Police officers speak with three individuals on a sidewalk near a building as a car passes and a person walks nearby.
4/09/25 San Francisco Narcotics Police detain two individuals on Hoff Street and 16th.

On Wednesday afternoon at 1:29 p.m., officers from the San Francisco Police Narcotics Unit arrested two middle-aged men at the corner of Hoff and 16th streets. When asked what would happen to the two, an officer filling out paperwork said the arrests were misdemeanors, and the men would likely be released within two hours.

Our piece will be updated when the Sheriff’s Department responds to our request for more information about the arrests.

Earlier, Caledonia Street had two individuals sitting in the roadway, with pieces of trash scattered throughout the area. The street remained quiet.

By 11:46 a.m., about 10 people blocked the sidewalk along the west side of Julian Avenue. Two individuals leaned behind a planter, surrounded by their belongings, while eight others stood nearby.

Around the same time, Wiese Street had fewer people than reported earlier in the week. Residents were able to walk through the area with little issue.

A local resident who has lived at the corner of 15th and Mission streets for more than two years shared the changes he has seen in the neighborhood.

“Compassion hurts when you see this much suffering every day,” said Mark Nguyen, describing how conditions on nearby streets have worsened.

Nguyen questioned the city’s response. “If the city can ticket people 100% of the time for not curbing their wheels, why can’t we consistently address public hard drug use?”

He also called for stronger intervention. “I think people need to be forced into help, like court-ordered therapy,” he said. “Watching people mentally and physically break down in public isn’t helping anyone.”

“These people need help. Everyone needs more therapy,” Nguyen said.

At the southwest 16th Street Plaza, a police cruiser and the mobile-command unit were present. People waited for their buses as a single fruit vendor cut slices of pineapple for a customer.

Across the street at the northeast 16th Street Plaza, a single police cruiser was parked with an SFPD officer inside. Two other officers, along with two Department of Public Works employees, stood across the street from the plaza, on Mission Street looking north.

Capp Street had little activity, with two people sitting on a cardboard box near an auto-body shop. Box trucks continued to unload equipment into nearby businesses.

  1. Thanks for reporting
    Everyone has challenges

It doesn’t give permission to allow some to break laws and not be respectful to other and the public space

Unfortunately , those that are selfish and dont respect law and order ruin it for all of all

Please start reporting on the “hellzone “ along Lower Polk

It makes the area you keep reporting on a dream in comparision.

Lower Polk is a wasteland and no go zone

Zombieland Who run around like animals

    1. I agree with you! Just because the police find it challenging to have the streets look like they want them to doesn’t give the police permission to break laws and not be respectful to other and the public space. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

  2. Those of you who feel you should force people to get help, I agree! and that forced help is found only in Jail, your forced to attend groups in there. That’s partly how I got help,I was forced to ATTEND ALL GROUPS,NO EXCUSES! That is the only way,but the major problem is…. They cannot force people from a court,or by any other way, because they will not show up even if court committed. It has to be through arrest, SENT TO JAIL! but that’s the PROBLEM,these freaking POLICE AINT DOING THEY JOB!! AND IT GET ME UPSET BECAUSE THEY ENABLE THESE DRUG ADDICTS,ETC . TO STAY THE SAME AND THEY END UP FEELING ENTITLED! If you go to San Mateo Co. the Police ARREST YOU AND KEEP YOU LOCKED UP THAT WAY THEY FORCED YOU TO GET HELP IF THEY WANT IT! OUR CITY OFFICIALS LIKE GOVERNOR NEWSCUM “FAIL US!” HE EVIL MAN! also whoever is the “WEAK LINK” AS SUPERVISOR IS SISSIFIED IN MISSION DIST.and THEY babying these guys, even these illegals criminals from over border! WHERE THE FREAK IS “ICE” WHAT HAPPEN????? WE NEED BIG BALLS LEADERSHIP TO COME DOWN WITH THE HAMMER NOW!! TO MANY F-ING WOMEN WHO ARE NATURAL BORN NURTURERS AND FEEL THE NEED TO “MAMA” ALL CRIMINALS! FIRE THESE WOMEN,THATS WHY EVERYBODY FROM ALL OVER WANNA COME HERE TO DO RETAIL THEFT,DRUGS OPEN AIR,PROSTITUTE,MOLEST OUR CHILDREN,RAPE WOMEN, ITS BECAUSE OF LENIENCIES JECK WHO WOULDNT WANNA COME HERE IF YOU CAN BUY,SELL DRUGS ETC ..THAMKS FOR ALLOWING ME “FREE SPEECH” ML. 3. I don’t think you’ll have much luck getting answers from the sheriff’s department about arrests that the police department made, as those are two different agencies. Try asking the police department.
