SFGate’s City insider is reporting that the owner of the Union 76 gas station wants to transform it to a 7-Eleven to help it’s struggling business.

Somil Gandhi, the gas station’s owner, said that there wont be a change of ownership but having the 7-Eleven name would help him buy cheaper products.

“It’s not a question of whether the use is necessary and desirable,” since the convenience store already is there, said Commission President Ron Miguel, “but whether the branding is ‘necessary and desirable’ for the city.”

The commission delayed its vote unitl July 11.
