Flyers have gone up around the Mission offering a reward to help locate the whereabouts of a $5,000 pupcycle last seen at 23rd and Folsom Street.
The vehicle – a large delivery box attached to the front wheels of a cycle – was the brainchild of Larry Bain, the owner of Scrappy, a year-old startup that rescues wasted meat from butchers to “turn into delicious dog snacks,” said Bain.
Somewhere between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. on May 22, someone stole the cycle from underneath Bain’s Glen Park porch. “They cut through two kryptonite locks,” he said.
That morning, he got a call from one of his customers who had just taken her child to school. She saw a man sitting on the vehicle at 23rd and Folsom. The clue that something was amiss? The cyclist was smoking a cigarette – not something that Bain would do.
With the pupcycle, Bain delivered snacks to local dog parks and customers. The Scrappy treats are also sold at local independent pet stores and Bi-rite.
If you have any information, call Bain at 415-377-3813 or send him an e-mail at larry@scrappyforpets.com
