A statement from Supervisor Malia Cohen said she will soon introduce legislation to create a citywide Gun Violence Task Force.
“In the last few months, there have been a number of incidents of gun violence across the city, several of them in District 10,” the release said, noting that 20 gun-related murders in the supervisor’s district — which includes the Bayview Hunters Point, Potrero Hill, Dogpatch, and Visitacion Valley neighborhoods.
The Mission has had two gun-related murders this year.
Supervisor Cohen is expected to propose the Task Force next Tuesday.
“In the past, the city has developed several task forces to deal with important issues such as wage theft, prostitution, single room occupancy hotels, electronic crime and other issues,” continued the supervisor’s statement. “But there is no problem more in need of coordinated support and resolution than the epidemic of gun violence.”
