Moving on, will ending gun shows halt gun violence in the Mission District?

The Board of Supervisors and San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris have pushed for a ban of frequent gun shows held at the Cow Palace . The event center located on Geneva Ave. is near the Mission District, Sunnydale public housing project, Visitacion Valley, and Bayview-Hunters Point.

The Mission District has seen a jump in non-fatal shooting – the latest victim a man injured in a shooting near 25th and Florida as recently as two days ago.

An assembly bill to ban the show has passed the full Legislature but will return to the Senate for a vote before heading to the governor’s desk for either a veto or signature into law.

If Schwarzenegger signs the bill, the ban becomes effective 2013. The next gun show is scheduled for next weekend.
