Viracocha, a Valencia Street business dedicated to the explorative nature of human expression in fashion, art, music, comedy and theater, will be transformed into a bone marrow center this weekend to support one of its major benefactors, who has fallen ill with leukemia.
By helping to facilitate a bone marrow transplant, Viracocha hopes to help save the life of the woman who was responsible for its initial funding and who has supported the business over the last three years.
With the help of the Gift of Life organization, Viracocha will have technicians on hand today and tomorrow, from noon to 6 p.m., to perform bone marrow tests, which take less than five minutes and involve a cotton swab of the mouth and questions about medical history.
From Viracocha:
Not only will you have offered a chance of survival, for this dear person in our life, but you will be placed in the Worldwide Registry of Bone Marrow Donors, and should you prove, either immediately, or one day down the road, to be a perfect match for someone … you will have the remarkable opportunity to save their life.
