BART aims to have 60 new cars up and running by 2017, but one current hurdle, the Bay Citizen reports, is deciding whether to opt for a local manufacturer (or at least one based in the United States), or to go with Canadian company Bombardier, Inc. BART’s staff recommended awarding the $2.5 billion contract to Bombardier. It’s worth pointing out that while the top bidders are Canadian and French, both companies voiced intent to build within the United States.
