Yep, it’s Monday again!
It’s 7 a.m., 44°, and if the weather prophets are right, it will be 63° by 1 p.m. Lots of talk about the unusually warm and dry weather of late, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be much different over the next 10 days. Still, yesterday might have been your best chance to pull out your favorite sleeveless number. If you have any Tahoe ski plans this week, you might be trying out the fake snow.
Yesterday was all about football and inaugurations. Mayor Lee took the oath of office as San Francisco’s 43rd mayor, saying, according to the Chronicle, “You may not always agree with me…. But every day I will make one pledge: that every decision I make is what I think is best for this city and all the people of San Francisco.” Wouldn’t it be strange if a government official made decisions he or she thought were the second- or third-best options?
Also, Ross Mirkarimi was sworn in as sheriff under an awkward cloud, the Chronicle reports.
As for playoff action, the NY Giants came out on top, 24-2, over the Atlanta Falcons. And more important, from this former Denverite’s perspective: The Denver Broncos beat the Pittsburg Steelers, 29-23, in an exciting overtime game. Even more important, how will the 49ers fare next weekend against New Orleans?
If you live and play in the Mission, you’re lucky enough to be able to walk home after a night of drinking and fun. But how much would all you late-night visitors be willing to pay for a taxi ride home? The NY Times reports on the “surge pricing” that pissed off some Uber customers on New Years Eve. Uber is a service that allows people to order cabs using a smartphone app. One man paid $135 to travel one mile to his home in San Francisco. Crazy, right?
Well, here’s to walking on this sunny Monday!
