For those who do not wish to travel far to other parts of the city or the Bay Area for festivity, mark your calendar for a Lunar New Year celebration on Ocean Avenue on Saturday, Feb. 28, between noon and 3 p.m. at Unity Plaza, 1002 Ocean Ave.ย

The event, which doesnโ€™t require any admission fees or RSVPs, will offer multicultural performances and various booths from local vendors. And the first 400 guests will eat lunch for free.

Another Lunar New Year celebration will be held at Guadalupe Elementary School at 859 Prague St. on Friday, Feb. 20 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. It is free to attend and will offer games, crafts, lion dances and more.ย

Yes, it’s February already, but let’s not leave our New Year’s resolutions behind just yet.

And if โ€œreading moreโ€ is your intention for 2026, now is a good time to pick up a copy of “The World I See,” a memoir by computer scientist Fei-Fei Li, from the San Francisco Public Library’s Excelsior branch.ย

You might still be able to join the library’s book club on Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the library at 4400 Mission St.

The library also offers two other events this month:

  • An Excelsior youth chess club on Feb. 14, Feb. 21, and Feb. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m., where kids between five and 18 are welcome to attend to learn how to play chess or hone their skills. No experience needed to attend.ย
  • Pokemon Day is coming to the branch on Friday, Feb. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. with some Pokemon themed stations, activities and giveaways.ย
