Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee said in a press release on Friday that she has been told by Alameda County’s sheriff that ICE and Border Patrol operations have been called off for the rest of the Bay Area in addition to San Francisco.
“I spoke with Alameda County Sheriff Yesenia Sanchez, who confirmed through her communications with ICE that Border Patrol operations are cancelled for the greater Bay Area — which includes Oakland — at this time,” Lee said.
Mayor Daniel Lurie yesterday announced that an anticipated immigration enforcement action in San Francisco was abruptly curtailed by President Donald Trump, who also put out a statement on his Truth Social platform.
While the president’s statement only mentioned San Francisco, today’s communiques from Bay Area leaders indicate the so-called “surge” will not imminently take place in any Bay Area locale.
Lee also said she is aware of a shooting on Thursday at 10 p.m. near the entrance of Coast Guard Island in Alameda, where Border Patrol agents had arrived early that morning and protesters amassed.
In a social media post on X, the Department of Homeland Security stated that a person driving a U-Haul truck backed up toward a line of Coast Guard security personnel outside of the base after being given verbal commands to stop the vehicle.
The driver suddenly accelerated backwards toward the officers and the officers fired several shots at the truck.
The department stated in the post that the truck driver was “wounded in the stomach and is being held for mental-health evaluation.”
No Coast Guard personnel were injured. Two civilians were wounded but are expected to survive, and a bystander was struck by a fragment and released from the hospital after treatment.
“The Oakland Police Department is assisting the Alameda Police Department in securing the perimeter of the scene. The FBI is the lead agency investigating the incident,” Lee said. “And I will continue to gather available information as it becomes accessible.”

What is neede here is law enforcement to assist with the out of control drug sales distribution and usage .

Drug dealers continue to operate openly and freely selling lethal poisons to impaired addicts .
The dealers will not stop until removed .
The addicts will not stop coming and using until the supply is stopped , they are taken away or dead .
Horrific that no citizens from SF are out in troubled neighborhoods trying to help those on the street or the neighborhoods
The city and nonprofits are never here .
Always see many protesting in front of Tesla or at city hall for something but never to help and get the drug crimes and harm addressed in the destroyed neighborhoods .

Trump sees 5-6 Tech Billionaires publicly against his plan and sees the optics don’t play in the media the same here as opposed to other conquests – plus he thinks he can buy complicity in the future by doing this ‘favor’ of not doing anything. He can hold it over our heads until the Epstein files are released and then re-use the big distraction all over again. People thinking Lurie did us some big favor by finally, FINALLY using his huge pulpit against Trump’s whims… where have they been this whole time where he’s said and done exactly nothing? He’s been SILENT. Strategic, sure you can say that maybe, but don’t for a minute believe that Trump is suddenly impressed by some local Democratic Mayor’s gravitas. That’s not what happened here.
