Julia Toscano is the campaign co-director at the San Francisco Living Wage Coalition, located on the 3rd floor at 2973 16th St, directly across from the southwest plaza where a SFPD mobile unit has been parked for 88 days.

Toscano grew up in the Mission and has worked in the area all her life.

“There are some positive happenings on 16th and Mission that I think don’t get publicized,” Toscano said, pointing to the churches in the area that give food to unhoused people at night.

She says the mobile unit is not “very family friendly” and thinks the resources could be better spent on cleaning the streets on 16th and Mission and infrastructure. “The ground that the trailer is on, is literally breaking away.”

There was more movement today. Early on some groups were using on the east side of Mission Street, but 20 minutes later, they had left.  And, other than one user on Capp Street, the side streets were fairly clear.

  1. Thanks for reporting

Rather then hwving the mobile unit there , there should be law enforcement officers actually walking around patrolling ,acting as a deterrent and fining and arresting when appropriate .

Not only there but in all the areas of the city where lawlessness runs wild .

    Divide and conquer

Very tragic to see outreach city enployees and residents in these neighborhoods being assaulted

Never have every seen even one nonprofit person on the streets in these locations .

Alot stand around at hastings law school.

  2. Hey Jose !

Don’t forget that the heavy Mobile Command Unit 2 is sitting on top of a roof.

The present surface on top of the BART station is about 5 years old ?

It is due for a rebuild and if it takes a bond measure why not ?

To add a nice Police Koban/Performance stage and Assigned Vendor Spaces.

    go Niners !!
