A man was killed and another injured with non-life-threatening injuries early on Monday morning after a shooting on Sunnydale Avenue near McLaren Park.ย
At approximately 3:01 a.m., San Francisco police officers responded to a report of gunfire on the 1900 block of Sunnydale Avenue, a street that runs through the former public housing complex that is in the midst of reconstruction.ย
Officers found two victims at the site. A man was declared dead at the scene, the police said, and another man was transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital.
The shooter has not yet been identified, and no arrests have been made. SFPDโs homicide division is leading the investigation.
Just three days ago, a man was shot and killed in the Mission District. That investigation is also still active and ongoing.
If both shootings are ruled homicides, Mondayโs Sunnydale shooting would be the seventh homicide in San Francisco this year. By May 5 last year, there were 11 homicides across the city.
Both violent and property crime is down across the city: Violent crime is down 17 percent year-to-date compared to the same period in 2024, and property crime is down 30 percent.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at 1-415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
Correction: A previous version of this story set the homicide in “Ingleside.” It was in the Ingleside police district, not the Ingleside neighborhood.
