Gunshots were heard near Adair and Capp streets around 7:20 a.m. this morning. Witnesses said the target of the gunfire ran around the corner into Marshall Elementary as kids were arriving at school.

One bystander reported hearing two shots and someone shouting the word “bitch.” Another community member said Five Keys staff who monitor the emergency entrance of Mission Cabins, a city-funded shelter across the street, looked out to see a car speeding away.

At approximately 7:38 a.m., police officers arrived at the 1900 block of Mission Street, responding to a report of shots fired, a San Francisco Police Department spokesperson said. They “searched for any evidence of someone shooting or a witness with information,” but “determined that there was no merit to a person shooting.”

Around noon, a neighbor reported that police had retrieved a bullet from the intersection. They said officers were interviewing Five Keys staff and Capp Street residents.

“We are in touch with SFPD and encourage anyone with information to come forward and reach out to SFPD,” said Mission District supervisor Jackie Fielder.

The San Francisco Unified School District did not immediately return requests for comment.

This is a developing story. It will be updated as more information becomes available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.

  1. I live across the street from the school. It’s been incredible to see how little city cares about Marshall Elementary. When they were building the Missions Cabins, parents and neighbors and the school shows up to say No! Please do not put this next to our school. A large part of the argument is that this neighborhood is over burdened with services and is treated as a dumping ground for undesirable projects. About 2 years ago, around the same time, a man entered the school, out of his mind. The principle locked down the kids and called the police. The polioce never showed up. The guy left eventually. Now we have been told that Mission Housing is building supportive housing as the first phase of the redevelopment. So they will be housing people struggling with addiction on top of an active drug market that they are failing to make any progress in fixing. Essentially throwing gasoline on the fire. This is a disservice to peple wanting to exit that lifestyle and also to the neighborhood that is struggling to NOT be a destination for drug dealers and users. MEDA has hosted meetings to talk about the shade the project with cast on the school. I have not met one parent that is concerned about the shade. This seems to be a charade that claims to be community engagement. I asked my neighbor about the recent meeting at Marshall regarding this project and she tells me there were many angry parents and MEDA would any talk about anything but shade. It would be great to see some respect given to this school and the Spanish speaking families that bring their children here every day.

    1. Yes, it would also be nice if D9 supervisor Jackie Fielder who purportedly supports the LatinX community so much, would come out and make a statement (or actually do something) with regard to how the skyrocketing criminogenic behavior we encounter everyday on these block impacts Marshall Elementary kids.

  2. The local lawlessness continues all over.

Really dont understand why this city cannot get control here .

Think it is time to call for help from other law enforcement places .
Other cities cops would not tolerate the crap and lawlessness .

The babysitting here is ruining everyones safety .
