A San Francisco judge on Thursday denied a motion to loosen the home detention conditions forJon Jacobo, a once-rising star in San Francisco’s politics who was arrested on Aug. 5 for alleged sexual assault.

“The motion is denied, to the extent that it asks for relief from home detention and [ankle] monitoring,” said San Francisco Superior Court judge Kenneth Wine this morning. “It’s the seriousness of the charges that’s really driving my decision. There are a number of victims with very serious charges.”

Jacobo, a longtime Mission District community leader, was first publicly accused of rape in 2021. This April, he resigned from his executive position at affordable-housing developer TODCO, soon after three women accused him of rape and abuse in a San Francisco Standard story. He was arrested on Aug. 5, 2024.

Jacobo today showed up in the courtroom in casual clothes, and nodded as his attorney described him as a family man who only goes out with his partner and newborn baby. “This is not a man who wants to go places other than with his family. He is looking for exceptions for work and family,” said Martina Avalos, his lawyer.

But the judge in August ordered Jacobo’s home detention under the “strictest conditions” he “can possibly impose,” and continued that protocol today.

Under those conditions, Jacobo surrendered his passport and is only allowed to leave home to meet with his lawyer, or for medical appointments. He must wear an ankle monitor and can be searched at any time, without cause.

Jacobo’s three alleged victims asked Elisha Jussen-Cooke, their attorney, to read out statements in court that asked the judge to keep Jacobo under house arrest.

“I am writing to strongly oppose Mr. Jacobo’s request to remove his ankle monitor grant device and end his house arrest,” wrote “Victim Two,” who says she has been “haunted by intense fear of his numerous threats and senseless acts of violence” in the past decade.

“Jon Jacobo is a dangerous man,” wrote another victim, who named “a constant battle between the fear and deep sadness I feel when I know there might be other women … I ask that this court’s original order from August be upheld in full.”

“On April 4th, 2021, my life changed forever when Jon Jacobo, a man I trusted as a friend, invited me over and raped me. On that occasion, I set very clear boundaries that Jon completely disregarded, raping me after I directly and emphatically said no,” wrote “Sasha P.,” whose testimony matches that of Sasha Perigo, the first woman who went public with allegations against Jacobo in August 2021. Until the ruling comes, “it is critical that he remain on electronic monitoring and on the strand device.”

Though Perigo mentioned a Sept. 28 Instagram post that showed Jacobo had gone to a Giants game with his partner and baby while under house arrest, the judge today said “Mr. Jacobo has done nothing wrong. He’s abided by the court’s order.”

The sheriff’s department grants Jacobo four hours of personal time per week, usually used for errands such as laundry or grocery shopping. Jacobo’s attorney called the department’s language “confusing” and Jacobo was “told that they are free to go and do what they please for four hours.” The judge, for his part, agreed that the language was confusing.

The conditions of Jacobo’s home detention are “severe punishment ahead of trial,” added Avalos. “What I’m hearing is that they don’t like seeing him free,” Avalos said, while the alleged victims in the courtroom kept shaking their heads.

Jacobo’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 16.

  1. If your baby daddy is on house arrest for rape, why the **** would you post several photos of him at a Giants game on several social media pages? The scary part of the story is that so many people gave the photos a thumbs up. The only people who seemed to point out that Jacobo was making a mockery of the justice system was a few Twitter trolls.

    2. Gabby Lopez has shown herself to be exceptionally naive (at best) and kind of dumb (at worst) to, through, and beyond her fiasco of a tenure with the school board. So her doing something clumsy like that is not entirely surprising.

By no means am I saying she bears responsibility for any of Jacobo’s actions. She does not. But, respectfully, she’s a bit of a doofus. Grateful she no longer holds responsibility over anything SFUSD related.

      1. Her 2021 interview with the New Yorker was all the evidence we needed to know that she’s not just “a bit” of a doofus.

  2. I am trying to understand the thought process behind knowing that your partner has been accused of violent attacks against multiple women and choosing to not only stay with him, but choose to make a baby with him and choose to continue to give him access to and influence over your … female child.

    I can’t.

    1. I’m with you. That said, I’ve done prisoners’ rights work for years and have met many, many women who married very serious criminals. The attraction was not despite the serious crimes but BECAUSE they were murderers and rapists. People are weird.

  3. Could you say more about how he was a “rising star in San Francisco’s police sphere.”? I don’t think the police typically consider people they investigate for rape as rising stars . . .

  4. Hasn’t he already betrayed the conditions of house arrest? There are photos of him at a Giants game. He shouldn’t receive special treatment. Rape allegations should be considered very seriously. It’s not a joke. Not a flippant thing.

  5. Have the trial, get this thing over with.
He’s made a mockery of justice so far.

    Lopez.
I hope we never have to hear another word about her after this.
Her tenure on the school board was infuriating.

  6. This man is repulsive.

The corrupt, grifter nonprofits who knew who he was and hired him anyways are even more repulsive. They provide nothing of value to the city and should be shut down.

  7. The effrontery of this monster never stops. His partner has no regard for the seriousness of anything . She posts photos of him at a baseball game and then has fhe gall to waste the courts time by asking to lift his house arrest? What is wrong with them? He is lucky to be on O.R. He should be in jail or out on a very high bail. Gabriela Lopez has a chip missing! Let’s all hope this guy gets put in jail for a long time. He and his partner really need to understand the damage they have caused .

  8. > “He must wear an ankle monitor, and can be searched at any time, without cause.”

Those are the pre-trial release rules Jacobo signed up for, but the Sheriff’s department won’t be coming to his house as a federal judge has ruled such a search is a violation of the 4th Amendment.

Jacobo got lucky as the ankle monitor program was suspended by Miyamoto less than two months after Jacobo’s release in reaponse the the federal ruling. A judge could have still released him, but not with an ankle monitor.

  9. Campers,

Well, y’all seem to be unanimous about skipping the trial here.

I’m gonna go with this being a case of several related political groupies looking for some glory by association being tied together by a cabal of man haters also looking for publicity.

I notice we’re not seeing links to the original piece in the series in which the original accuser (ex-lover) phoned and invited him over for some drinks and stayed the night after last minute consultation with lady musician who was first person she met the next morning.

Took me one Google click to find that the confidant’s big hit as a musician was a sone glorifying the rape of a beautiful model with the lyrics …

“Fight me baby, fight me, you know I like it like that.
I take what I want, your my calendar girl.”

That accuser (Sasha Perrigo) wouldn’t talk to the SFPD but she made the rounds of every publication in town that would listen to her and none of the majors would print her claims.

Folks, back off of your red meat Thanksgiving feast for a bit and let’s see what a jury thinks if it get’s that far.

So, will Mahmood fill Manny’s tomorrow night ?

    I’ll be there.

    lol

Go Niners !! (even if they lose all remaining games)

      1. Carl,

I was last of 8 and next 4 up who raised me were women and 3 of them are still alive and mom took time off from her factory sewing machine to work with Eleanor Roosevelt on Women’s Rights.

I always married above my station and adored my wives and always regretted when they upgraded.

My women are always totally in charge of our relationships.

        God’s a Woman, you know ?

        Go Niners !!

    2. I always wondered why she stayed at his house. I also wonder why she didn’t go to the police first. Can’t say she was scared because going to the press was only going to give her more attention.

I believe people are innocent till proven guilty. Let the courts do their thing.
