Where to dance:

“Dance-O-Ween” at 16th and Mission

Dance away your demons tonight at the “Insane Roving Dance Party” starting around 8:30 near the 16th Street BART Plaza. Expect music and “surprises” — and don’t forget to wear a costume!

Ghoul’s Night Out and Live DJ at Make-Out Room

If you hear creepy noises coming out of Make-Out Room around 6 to 9 p.m., just walk inside. DJ Tonearm will be playing spooky, haunted-house records and “assorted monster-themed garage punk weirdness.” There will also be a dance party and light projections by DJ Beckerovka.

Where to trick-or-treat:

Shotwell Hallowe’en Stroll & Costume Contest on Shotwell

The Central Mission Neighborhood Association is hosting a costume contest at SFFD Station No. 7 (19th and Shotwell) starting at 5:30 p.m. There will be prizes for the best costume and best family costume. Afterward, trick or treat along Shotwell between 19th and 22nd streets from 6 to 7 p.m.

Fair Oaks Street

Houses along Fair Oaks Street, between 21st and 26th streets, will be doling out candy starting around 6 p.m. The street will be closed to traffic, so younger children can focus on getting the goods.

Noe Valley (24th Street)

Before sunset, trick or treat with merchants along upper 24th Street, and once the sun sets rove among the decorated victorians in kid-friendly Noe Valley. Remember parking might be difficult, so consider public transportation.

Bernal Heights

Merchants along Cortland Avenue in Bernal Heights usually hand out candy, and you might think about looking around Precita Park and Treat Street.

Mission Street

Hit up merchants up and down Mission Street, as every year they treats on hand for children in costumes. Stop by Mission Comics and Art between 4:30 to 8 p.m. for free comics for trick-or-treaters.
