With rain likely later in the week, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission is deploying sandbags, dropping them off Wednesday near the intersection of 17th and Folsom streets. Crews have also cleaned and inspected all of the catch basins in the area and are being monitored, according to a public utilities spokesperson.

The Public Utilities Commission also plans to deploy and remove flood barriers in accordance with forecasts of heavy rains. The barriers will go up on the west side of Folsom Street  south of 17th Street and the south side of 17th Street from Shotwell to Folsom streets.

From the SFPUC:
What to expect with the temporary flood barrier deployment:

  • SFPUC crews will deploy the barriers in anticipation of large storm events and remove them when rains have stopped and/or any flooding has subsided.
  • You will see City staff, vehicles, trucks, and trailers for the duration of the deployment.
  • Crews will be present whenever the barriers are in place (day and night) to assist residents and businesses with accessing their properties. However, in the event of extreme rains or flooding, we may need to advise everyone to stay away from the area due to safety concerns.
  • Temporary No Parking signs may be posted throughout the work area; please refer to signs, once posted, for exact details.
  • Businesses and residents in the area will have access to their doorways and driveways, although there may be temporary delays.
