President’s Day weekend in the Mission began with a shooting on Friday night, which sent one man being taken to the hospital.
The weekend also concluded with a shooting, after a man in his 30s rang the doorbell of a home on Shotwell Street between 25th and 26th streets at around 11 a.m. on Monday. When a 54-year-old man answered the door, the suspect ran into the apartment and demanded money. A fight ensued, and shots were fired. Police report the suspect ran out of the apartment to get help, and a passerby drove the victim to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound in his buttocks. The victim gave no further information to police, and no arrest was made.
Robberies
On Friday, February 12, at 12:30 a.m., a 37-year-old man on Treat Avenue between 20th and 21st streets was approached by a man in his early 20s holding a handgun. The suspect demanded the victim’s cell phone and gold necklaces. A second man of about the same age then approached and ripped the gold necklace off the victim’s neck and grabbed his cell phone. Both suspects fled the scene in a beige Toyota Land Cruiser, but were not arrested. The victim suffered only some irritation on his neck.
Three men robbed a 33-year-old man on Capp Street between 16th and 17th streets at 5:10 a.m. on Saturday. The men approached their victim from behind, then pointed a black semi-automatic pistol in his face and demanded money. The other two suspects then took the victim’s cell phone, wallet, cash and backpack. The suspect with the gun then punched the victim in the face several times before all three fled with the victim’s property. No arrest was made, and the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries to his face.
A 50-year-old man holding his cell phone at 16th and Mission streets at 9:16 a.m. on Saturday was parted with it when a man in his 30s approached him and forcefully snatched the phone from his hand. The suspect then got on his bicycle and fled the scene, evading arrest but leaving the victim uninjured.
At 2:30 a.m. on Monday, a man in his 40s approached a 59-year-old man on 19th and Lexington streets, grabbed him by the collar, and demanded his keys. The suspect then fled the scene with the victim’s keys. No arrest was made.
Burglaries
Sometime between 12:30 and 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 11, a laptop was stolen from the home of a 36-year-old woman on 21st Street between Folsom and Shotwell streets. The victim woke up to find her kitchen window was open and her laptop was missing from the kitchen table.
On Friday between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m., someone broke into the home of a 27-year-old man living on Liberty Street between Valencia and Guerrero streets. The victim was at home when he heard glass breaking. The next day, a neighbor sent the victim an email noting that his garage had been broken into. Two bicycles were stolen.
