Plin, the one-year-old modern Italian restaurant on Valencia Street has closed, but plans to re-open and rebrand as a bar and restaurant that better fit the neighborhood, Alexander Alioto told Inside Scoop.
Located at 280 Valencia St, Plin’s space will soon become Nostra Spaghetteria and Bar Mia, a place where you can design your own pasta dishes, according to Inside Scoop. Alioto believes that the new venture will encourage more local residents to swing by and have a bite.
“I think we were missing the mark a little bit for the neighborhood and for locals. Plin was more of a destination than a local spot, and that’s what prompted us,” Alioto told Eater SF.
Other new restaurants have also discovered that the key to survival in the Mission is a strong local clientele.
Last year, Mission Local covered the opening of Plin, where Alioto described his ideas for the new restaurant.
“We want people playing with the food, playing with the wine. We want you to keep going and keep eating,” he said back in August 2014.
Today, Alioto could not be reached for comment. The doors were shut and the message on their phone thanks loyal customers for their business.
Alioto opened Seven Hills, now one of the top rated Italian restaurants in the Bay Area, in 2011, with Plin intending to be his second big venture.
“We want to cater to our neighborhood and the people there and offer that look and that concept of food to our neighbors,” added Alioto to Eater SF.
Alioto plans to simply redesign the interior of the establishment, possibly with new paint and new decor, as well as graffiti by local artist Chris Luck.
The new restaurant, which is set to open August 26, will feature more artisan cocktails and will be open for brunch, serving bottomless mimosas and Bloody Mary’s. Nostra Spaghetteria will still heavily rely on pasta, yet with more focus on fun and crowd pleasing dishes.

just what we need, another bottomless drinks for brunch place.
Ah Plin. I went in, happy to see $15-29 entrees. The server then said that they were “small plates” and recommended 4-5 per person. Next!
