A two-alarm fire broke out at a mixed-use building early this morning at Treat and 24th Street. Five people from a single family have been transported to the hospital and media outlets are reporting that at least two of them are in critical condition.
Here’s more from KRON:
A 2-alarm fire has been reported at 24th and Treat Street in the Mission District, according to fire officials. There is a liquor store on the first floor of the building, and apartments on the second floor.
The five people transported to the hospital were all family members, three of whom are suffering life-threatening injuries, firefighters said.
According to NBC Bay Area, Fire Chief Joanne Hayes White told reporters that two people were sleeping illegally in the first floor liquor store. According to Hayes White, there was a padlock on the door that fire fighters had to cut to free them. The two illegal residents fled the scene before rescue crews could asses the extent of their injuries.
