If you walk on Mission Street on your way to or from the 24th BART plaza, you have probably noticed RadioShack’s smashed storefront windows. In today’s Afternoon Report, we followed up on what looks like the remains of Radio Shack windows.
It’s been two months since businesses in the Mission got vandalized after protests during “Black Friday,” on November 28th.
Organized protest during the day progressed rather smoothly. However, the aftermath of theFerguson non-indictment during the night left several businesses vandalized and with their windows smashed. One of those businesses was RadioShack, which got its windows smashed when someone threw an object into the storefront.
The four impacted windows of the electronics store have not yet been replaced. “Not yet, we haven’t gotten anything,” said Erika, a store manager, referring to a notice from the city.
The protest that started from Union Square, made its way to the Mission. A small group which the protesters identified as not being part of the march, targeted the chain stores and smashed their windows.
At the RadioShack in the Mission, the manager mentioned that customers often inquire about the windows, but “not sure why it hasn’t been replaced,” she said.
This has been your Afternoon Report—a new series we’re trying out in which we offer a quickie post-meridian rundown of some minor developments in the always-happening streets of the Mission District.
