San Francisco Police Department report that a homeless man was found dead Monday morning around 6:30 a.m. under the 101 overpass near the corner of Potrero and Cesar Chavez. Following a homicide investigation, officers detained another homeless man named Cesar Castellanos for the crime.

The Medical Examiner’s office is still working to identify the victim and determine the precise cause of death.

According to police spokesperson Officer Grace Gatpandan, the two men were spotted by several witnesses in some kind of altercation underneath the highway overpass early Monday morning. The confrontation reportedly turned violent, and witnesses report that Castellanos attacked the other man, though Gatpandan couldn’t specify the weapon used.

Responding to a call, officers arrived on scene by 6:30 a.m. and the victim was found dead. After interviewing several of the people near the scene, they detained Castellanos and he is being held in County Jail on charges of murder.
