The New York Times reported earlier today that young immigrants will not be eligible for federal healthcare benefits. In June, President Obama announced that young people who were brought illegally to the United States as children would be allowed to stay. According to the article:
Nick Papas, a White House spokesman, said the deferred-deportation policy “was never intended” to confer eligibility for federal health benefits.
The move has deeply angered advocates for the immigrant community. Many undocumented young people are now very worried about paying for health insurance.
