The Wall Street Journal interviewed Charles Phan, a Mission native, to get his take on the thriving restaurant scene.

Every locale has different customers, so you just have to attune to them. It was something new to the city, and back then we’d get people who would drive in from every neighborhood. They’d deal with the parking problem. They’d deal with how they didn’t like the neighborhood. They thought it was dangerous

Now the Mission has really become the hot spot. I just went to St. Vincent last night, a brand new restaurant. It’s really hip and happening. Now everybody from Pacific Heights is going to go down to the Mission.”
