The Duc Loi supermarket at 18th and Mission is now serving Vietnamese sandwiches. Owner Amanda Ngo makes them. Some of us at Mission Loc@l tried them, and we think they’re very tasty and very affordable ($5).

This is another sprout that will contribute to the Asian culinary explosion on 18th Street. The menu: bahn mi Vietnam, vege tofu portobello, pork lemongrass BBQ, chicken lemongrass BBQ and fried chicken breast.

I had the bahn mi Vietnam. The peppers make this sandwich spicy, and it eases the thought of eating head cheese. They have vegetarian options for those of you who just frowned at the thought of head cheese.
