Increasingly, younger students are taking to the roads. Mission Local joins 8-year-old Tess Horton and her family on their morning commute to Buena Vista Horace Mann.
The family bikes to school on a regular basis — the Hortons’ effort to teach their children about healthy habits while making a positive impact on the environment. They also support today’s Walk to School Day, which encourages families to walk to school and create a safer community space.
A swap meet aficionado, the Mission’s outdoor markets and Latino community remind Alicia of her family’s weekly swap meet outings at home, in southeast Los Angeles, where she is always on the lookout for hidden treasures.
