This is an updated report.
Police ruled the death of Rodney Curiel, a 34-year-old man found inside his Mission Hotel room on Monday a homicide. An autopsy was completed this week.
Robert Velarde, an inspector with the homicide unit of the San Francisco Police Department, said they don’t have a suspect or motive .
Police officer Samson Chan said the victim died of “possible strangulation.”
When asked whether they were looking at surveillance cameras to see who went inside the victim’s room, Velarde said, “We’re reviewing that as we speak.”
The hotel manager found the victim inside his room at 10 a.m. Monday at 520 South Van Ness Ave. in the Mission District during a routine pest control inspection.
Sgt. Wilfred Williams, a public information officer with the police department, said Curiel was found lying on his bed.
Chan said Curiel had been living in the residential hotel between three to eight months.

Thank you geniuss for your input. In my experience at this has been a lot similar to yours. In the 4 years I’ve been here I have experienced corruption death threats and helplessness and nothing gets done about it. Staff here are corrupt and are the ones doing these things violating our civil rights like ignoring communication forms, putting hidden cameras bathrooms and in people’s rooms. Before coming here I was homeless at the time and thc offered me a place I can stay I did not know the things that were going to occur when I got here. After 6 months of being here evil homicidal talk started happening like hearing the supervisor talk about me to another staff member and a client telling them “were never going to stop fucking with him”. I’ve called the police so many times And made over 20 police reports over the past 2 years for tenants making threats saying disgusting awful things to me. And when I do attempt to try to fix the problem it gets worse And I fear for my life now. It’s time we come together and bring justice to people like Rodney and his family and all the ones who have been affected by THC. Please help me I. I’m trying to get out of this place and want to file a complaint with the better business bureau and take legal action. If anyone has experienced the corrupt things that go on at this hotel like I have please respond or send me an email.brandonstanbery360@gmail.com

I would ask that the police begin to investigate this hotel ..more deaths have occured all ruled out as suicide or overdose the first two weeks i moved into this building there were 12 deaths .. there has been so many code violations for this property its ridiculous how this hotel still stands . The staff are sneaky enter peoples rooms without notice ..devices hidden in the restrooms . Just sick .. mak7ng a police report can get you killed ..im tak8ng a chance right now commenting on this. Cause it wont ever go public .. they control what u see vs whats really happening ..i can guess that the people that run this place aside from the owner charlie patel ..are mostly family members , that is how managment gets away with things they do to tenants .. not to mention the famiky members here that are also tenants ..thats how certain tenants have certain priviledges like going into peoples room without being caught 9n camera or gping in their mailboxes without being caught on camera ..i have a few neighbors that drive mercedes benz vehicles ..yet doesnt have a job or a bonafide hustle ..but will always have stacks of money ..thats not what call a hustler thats a murderer collecting money off dead people ..insurance money they claim a few months maybe even a year before a death then once its ruled out in public ..its collected in private . The biggest scam ever ..and they get away with it ..sfpd dont care to them we are a bunch of home.eless people luckily housed ..a binch of drug addicts or washed up hoes and pimps .our staff majority are all ex felons.. this place has killed enough people its time to hold people accountable for what they have done . ..
Our condolences to Rodney’s family. He had brought so much joy and lots of laughter in our lives that we cannot believe he is gone. I hope and pray that whoever was responsible for his death will be brought to justice, because he was a good man with an awesome spirit. San Francisco will never be the same without you, my friend. Rest in peace.
Love
