As California tries to find its way out of a $42 billion budget deficit, voters (hopefully) will go to the polls today, May 19 to decide on the six initiatives put forward by the state. Mission Loc@l guides you through the initiatives below.

Armand is a photojournalism and multimedia student at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, and is originally from Baton Rouge, La. His work history includes being a paper pusher in Los Angeles and a youth program coordinator in Ramallah, and is currently a student editor at Mission Local, which means he gets to read a lot of news and tell people what to do.

  1. You’re missing a big part of what 1A does. Prop 1A would also put a permanent cap on the state budget. Since we know that we don’t have enough money for the services we need now, and since we know that the state’s population is growing fast, 1A would be VERY BAD in the long run! They tried a similar thing in Colorado and it was a disaster.
