Many day laborers are making it part of their strategy to learn English, not only to communicate with employers, but increasingly, to defend themselves against harassment by police officers.

Because many are afraid of branching out and finding courses in English, Karl Kramer brings English to them. Every Wednesday, Kramer, a volunteer, holds morning classes at La Raza Centro Legal’s Day Labor Center.
