There’s some kind of magic above the Mission that clears the sky. It doesn’t matter how bad, at 9 ish the stars appear, making 9 p.m. the perfect time for a walk. It is quiet, the air is fresh, and if you start to ascend toward Bernal or Dolores Heights, there’s literally no sight that isn’t worth a snap. It is such a shame that the common reaction to my tales of night walking is “You’re not afraid, walking by night?”

I’m not, we’re not, because it is 9 p.m. and because we don’t live in a fictional Bronx from a 1974 movie. So, even if it sometimes feels like 3 a.m. [Really, folks, I get it, it’s s school-day – but it feels like the village from Footloose, sometimes] let’s take a stroll – together on Thursday – this Thursday – tonight.

The original idea was a mystery tour, but I’m short on mysteries. I could show you the stuffed monkey or the fertility goddess, but I guess they barely count as curiosities. So, we went for the lazy option and decided to be open to your ideas. There’s a place to discuss the itinerary here [you’ve to be registered as a free user to access to our groups]. Or just show up at the entrance to the Mission Playground on Valencia Street.

Just to be clear, it’s not a Neighborhood Watch – think more critical mass, but walking.

And of course, of all the Thursdays we decided to start on the one with the Storm of the Decade. Just to prove the magic, in your face, weather guy..or if the weather guy wins, bring an umbrella.  See you at 9 tonight.
