Last week our hubris has been our punishment, the rain was anything but liberating – last night has been better.
The Late Walk with Mission Local started at 9:07 pm: Eva, Adrienne, Eri – with their three dogs – Nando from Brasil, and I.
Nando was there for the stuffed monkey, but the option was immediately discarded. Didn’t get exactly how it happened, but felt like the dogs decided. Then we walked toward Dolores Park, talking about the Grinch. And at this point you need some background:
On December 18th, 1966, How the Grinch Stole Christmas was shown for first time on CBS. This totally unrelated trivia was part of my sloppy attempt to find a theme for last night walk. But I fell short on Christmas traditions – we don’t have Grinches where I came from in Italy, Frosty is unheard-of, and even A Christmas Carol arrived in our homes late, thanks to an episode of Sanford And Son [Ebenezer Sanford, 1975].
There’s a reason for our lack of fun on Christmas – it involves the Pope, Halloween, some Celts – but the full explanation would bring me off topic even more. I’ll keep it short: I run out of small talks material pretty fast so I grabbed the Grinch, and the walk turned in a class on Christmas traditions – there was a lot of eggnog involved, not so much about the Grinch, indeed.
At 9:51 p.m. the group gathered at the top of Dolores park to indulge the needs of our true masters: the dogs. We offered them balls, they lavished us a frisbee, a chewed one. Then, after a routine in which a lots of good boy talks were given with weird voices, we scattered like clouds in a windy day.
Next Thursday will be Christmas – I think we could add some leftovers to the walk. Show up at the Mission Playground on Valencia Street, at 9 p.m. And if you have any contribution, suggestion to share, let’s talk about it, here [you’ve to be registered as a free user to access to our groups].
