Sunflower Vietnamese Restaurant, a longtime favorite spot to get a big, inexpensive bowl of noodles on the corner of 16th and Valencia, may be closing according to Eater SF:
Sunflower is mysteriously shuttered, with only a sign on the door reading “We are closed until further notice. Sorry for the inconvenience.” A call placed to the restaurant was answered by a voicemail box with an identical message; a staffer Sunflower’s sister location in Potrero Hill refused to comment on why the Mission restaurant was closed or when it might reopen.
Unfortunate news if it’s indeed the case. I’ve long been a fan of the place for the hearty portions and comforting vibe. Mission Local contributor Rachel Parker admitted it was one of her favorite places to eat in our 2011 Eating Now series. Here’s what she said:
The vegetarian noodle soup at Sunflower Vietnamese on Valencia and 16th is one of the best comfort food dishes in the Mission. They really pile on the veggies: zucchini, yellow summer squash, mushrooms, carrots, cauliflower, red bell pepper, cabbage, broccoli and sometimes chard. Add lime, bean sprouts, peppers and basil and you’ve got a delicious, healthy soup that only costs about $7.50.
Let’s hope for the Mission vegetarians seeking big bowls of noodle soup for under $10 that this is just a temporary closure. We’ll be watching that corner.

Templeton and friends is my guess..
$7.50 isn’t so cheap when you consider the ingredients probably cost no more than a buck.
I suspect only pizza has a higher percentage profit margin than faux pho.
Come on down to 24th Street! Lots of empty storefronts here.
