Oakland police officer Rick Moore talked to students at Piedmont Elementary School in Oakland on Friday in response to the recent massacre at an elementary school in Connecticut.

Bay Area school officials told the Chronicle that they’ve taken lessons from every school tragedy to boost security and prevent violence before it happens. And in a letter on Friday, Michelle Chang, principal of San Francisco’s Dianne Feinstein Elementary School, assured parents that “Next week, we will be practicing lockdown procedures again.”
