Police blocked off 17th Street between Valencia and Albion streets for about an hour this afternoon after a citizen tried to dispose of an old grenade at Mission Police Station.

According to officer G. Buckner, a citizen brought an old grenade to the station at around 12:30 p.m. Police immediately evacuated the station and neighboring Taqueria El Toro as a precaution.

Police opened the street to traffic at around 1:20 p.m. after the explosive ordinance disposal team took the grenade.

Buckner added that citizens who want to dispose of dangerous devices should call police and not bring the items to them.
