Family and friends will gather today for a funeral service for Ronald Monzon, who was shot in his car on Shotwell at 23rd Street on March 9.

Monzon’s relatives told the SF Examiner that “there had been talk in the neighborhood about an argument at the restaurant between Monzon’s friends and another group.” From the Examiner:

“I just know my brother didn’t know what was going to happen,” Donny Monzon said. “And whatever beef his friends have, he wasn’t involved in it. He was an innocent bystander.”

The Homicide Division is investigating the incident, Mission police Captain Robert Moser wrote in his blog:

“We at Mission Station have increased police resources in the area to deter any further violence. I will provide you with further information as I am able to.”
