A man was shot and suffered non-life threatening injuries shortly after exiting Muni at the corner of 16th and Folsom Streets at around 9:30 a.m., police said.

Police inspect what appears to be a bullet hole.

The incident began after the two victims, ages 18 and 22, got off Muni at 16th and Folsom Streets and were approached by the three suspects. A verbal confrontation began and at least one of the suspects began shooting. An AT&T employee working in the area said he heard about eight to ten gunshots.

Only the 22-year-old was hit, according to San Francisco Police Spokesperson Eric Chiang.

The suspects then ran Northbound on Folsom Street, according to witnesses who declined to give their names.

Police had taken one man into custody and were questioning two others nearby at 15th and South Van Ness. It is unknown at this time if they are the suspects that caused the shooting.

A reader, who witnessed the incident, sent an email telling us that the youth arrested by police was wearing the same clothes as the shooter.

“The image you first showed of the guy in the black hoodie being taken into custody is wearing the exact same clothes as the guy I saw shooting and is who described to the police. It’s very likely that it’s the right guy. I was waiting for the 12 bus going north at that stop and saw it happen. I don’t know if that will help people feel a little better knowing that it seems like they got the guy.”

  1. That red cap lying on the ground explains a lot about what happened here. BTW, where are the photos mentioned by the commenter: “The image you first showed of the guy in the black hoodie being taken into custody is wearing the exact same clothes as the guy I saw shooting and is who described to the police.”
